THE ART OF CONNECTION

The concept behind the design was to merge each of the programmatic disciplines in symbiotic harmony. By connecting the spaces vertically, it simultaneously connects them in all directions. The idea was to maintain a connection between the outdoors, the occupants, and the building. Since the floorplans tier to meet the height requirement setbacks, there are variations to the floorplans. Each of the floor plans promotes wellness, connectivity through circulation, and transparency to connect to the surrounding views. As a preliminary design, the angles on the facades, seen on the exterior elevations, emphasize the surrounding views of the city of Manhattan and the East River. A double skin facade is also applied to deter excessive solar heat gain & daylight. The retail connector blends the office and residential building together by providing common areas, such as a gym & restaurant, for both programs. The design of the project is meant to surpass the predisposition that programs must be separated, but rather programs can exist in harmony with each other. The design can be the change to the city of New York, inspiring sustainability, connectivity, and a diverse range of interconnected programs integrated into the urban jungle.
